25 Greatest Video Game Box Art Of All Time
11. Dragon's Quest II (Famicom)
Akira
Toriyama – the legendary illustrator – is most renowned for his work on
manga/anime, but has contributed to numerous video game projects as well, including
Chrono Trigger, Blue Dragon, and of course, Dragon Quest, which the illustrator worked
on consistently since its inception in 1986. In total, he’s contributed character designs as well as cover illustrations for approximately fifteen instalments in the classic
franchise, including spin-offs such as Dragon Quest Monsters.
Dragon Quest II – despite seeming one of many – stands out in particular, introducing the distinctive style, which appears remarkably reminiscent of a certain manga/anime also featuring ‘dragon’ in the title. Regardless, the distinctive distinguishing style distances the franchise from similar games within the same genre, infusing the series with a much needed dose of personality.
