25 Scariest Gaming Moments Of The 2000s

12. Exploring The Horror Of The Dunwich Building - Fallout 3

If you're going to name a location after one of H.P. Lovecraft's scariest tales, then you better make sure it more than lives up to it. And boy did Bethesda do that and more. Despite not being a horror title, Fallout 3 flirts with the genre on a number of occasions and any fan can probably list off a more than a moments that have scared the pants off of them: whether it's uncovering the disturbing truth behind Andale, confronting the madness lying within Vault 108, or the trudging through the swamplands of Point Lookout- but it's exploring the darkest corners of the Dunwich Building that most will single out as the scariest experience of the game. And with good reason, because if you didn't sense something was wrong the very second you stepped through the door, that all changed the second you waltzed into a room featuring a head adorning the table top. Throw in some hallucinations, the recorded ramblings of a survivor as he slips further and further from sanity, and a demonic obelisk and you've got the perfect recipe for a nightmare that only Lovecraft could conjure.
