You know how doors work in real life. They open, they close. They can be locked, and then they won't open. Most doors, however, tend to behave in the same way and nearly always actually go somewhere.

In the world of videogames, its a complete crapshoot whether a door will actually act like a door or not. You may think that you're able to go through that door, but in fact you cannot. It's locked, and there's no keys around for it in the entire world.

You may actually be able to go through a door. When you're on the other side of it, you're safe from whatever enemy was pursuing you, because they can't come through the door. Then, on the other hand, the enemy may be able to come through the door after all. Who knows? Doors in videogames simply don't make sense.
