Steven Spielberg directs an adaptation of Ernest Cline's hit 2011 novel, and though a dystopian sci-fi adventure film at first seems like a strange fit for the director, Spielberg's incredible blockbuster success really does speak for itself.

The trailers have made it clear that the movie's going to be a celebration of pop-culture above all else, and if it can do this without getting too pandering or feeling overly shallow, then Ready Player One could be one of 2018's most joyous tentpoles.

With a cast including Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance, it's certainly not wanting for talent. If nothing else, this should be one of 2018's biggest reasons to drag yourself to the cinema and soak in the bombastic enormity of the movie-going experience.
