30 Greatest RPG Video Games Of All Time

23. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

It's hard to believe that almost 10 years have passed since Oblivion was released. This fourth installment in the Elder Scrolls series was a enormous critical and commercial success, helped by having releases on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows platforms.

Freedom, open-ended gameplay and some of the best character development seen in a game - 21 different skills which can all be levelled up to 100 - let you become a thief, a mage, a champion of the arena with anything and everything in between.

Ask those who have played Oblivion what their best memory of the game is and you'll usually get the same answer: That moment you first emerge from the imperial prison sewers and see the beautiful land of Cyrodiil before you with its limitless possibilities, potential and adventures. Not forgetting that it also had Patrick Stewart doing voice work too. What a game.
