The magnum opus for atmospheric horror, Silent Hill 2 took what was already a fantastically simple-yet-scary proposition - an entire town encased in fog so thick you could barely see in front of you - and piled on the personal drama too, introducing us to one tortured soul in the form of James Sutherland. Sutherland's story is one of the all-time greats, culminating in some brilliantly dark twists and turns that increase the replay value for the game in a way that very few titles ever do. If for some reason SH2 remains a title you've heard a whole heap about but are yet to play, dive over to the Playstation Store and grab the HD remake - atmospherically and visually it's one of the best matchings of eastern horror with a more western premise that's ever been committed to disc.
