40 Best Supporting Video Game Characters Ever

27. Dr Peter Venkman €“ The Ghostbusters Video Game This one feels a little like cheating as they mostly set this character up in the movies, but they managed to recapture and add to Peter Venkman brilliantly for the game, in no small part thanks to Bill Murray doing the voice over of course. It was awesome just to see this guy again. Dry wit and explosive temper. Yeah, it€™s Bill Murray, we mean Peter Venkman, alright!

26. Sargent Johnson €“ Halo Series

Ever watched Aliens? Of course you have, if you€™re anything like me you built your young adult life around that film and worship ever single line of dialogue€well maybe that€™s too far, for some of you with lives. Anyway, the character of Apone clearly has a big influence on Sarge Johnson from the Halo series. The guy is a bad ass, smart mouth marine Sargent, without a corncob anywhere near his ass. He assists the Master Chief in the first three games with support and weapons and just generally kicks Covenant ass throughout! €œI know what the ladies like,€ €“ he€™s talking about the big gun on his tank€

25. Spike €“ Buffy the Vampire Slayer The Game

We bloody loved Spike from the TV show so when he showed up in the video game of the same name for Xbox and PS2, it was an awesome surprise. He is a great character, amusing and wrong€but in a good way. He was the kind of vampire that you€™d want to be if, you were an immortal with a chip on your shoulder. Great counterweight to the snivelling Angel and as the game was made before they ruined his character, video game Spike will always be just that, funny, evil and kick ass!

24. Abraham Reyes €“ Red Dead Redemption

Reyes is a great character, a cheating cheeky Mexican stereotype of the most racially unaware standard. Vying for power, influence and woman is all this guy is about. Singing bards about how awesome he is and how he won battles which he had no part in. Basically, he€™s a complete nob who can€™t remember the name of his €˜beloved€™ Laura€uh Louisa! We love how much crazy shit this guy gets us into in the game. Playing as John Marsden your job is basically to winMexicofor him€and watch him walk away taking the credit. He is arrogant and dismissive, but very amusing throughout his appearance in the game.

23. The Butler €“ Tomb Raider Series

In Tomb Raider 2 we garnered a lot of joy from jumping over this guy while in the mansion and generally shooting him in the face whilst he makes a funny shuddering noise and falls over all the while offering you a nice cold beverage. Not really a useful character, but he€™s got bullet proof skin man, try it. Seriously, dust of the PS1 and put ten rounds into him. Nothing, not a dent! They tried to give him more to say in the later Tomb Raiders, but we didn€™t care€we just wanted to pump some shotgun shells his way and see if he was still a match for the fucking Terminator.

22. Varla Guns €“ House of the Dead: Overkill

*SPOILERS* Overkill is a delight to play and that€™s because of an awesomely bad cast of people who enhance the B-movie shittiness of the game. One such is Varla Guns! Sister to a crippled brother, Varla turns to a life of vice. But when the Dead break loose and her brother is killed, she becomes a zombie slaying hard ass bitch with some of the best terrible dialogue you€™ll ever hear in a video game. €œI€™m gonna shove this gun so far down your throat that I€™ve gotta force my hand up your ass to pull the goddamned trigger€ €“ talking about killing Papa Ceaser.
