40 Best Supporting Video Game Characters Ever

21. Zevran Arainai €“ Dragon Age Series

Not many people don€™t like Zevran! A cold hearted assassin with a sense of humour and pointy elf ears to boot. He€™s awesome with daggers, sneaking in and ripping up Darkspawn for fun. He basically likes shiny things, like gold and silver, making him more magpie than Crow €“ see what we did there? Crow€never mind. Also, worth a mention that Zevran is one of the first characters to be romance-able by both sexes, so you can do creepy man-man or creepy man-woman sex on him. Either way, it€™s still creepy.

20. Lieutenant Stephen Cartwright €“ Resistance: Fall of Man

*SPOILERS* Cartwright is an English Royal Marine who fights alongside Nathan Hale and does a pretty fine job seeing as he doesn€™t have Hales cheating super powers. He shrugs off the discovery of Hales infection and carries on knowing that the American will help him on where another man would have turned and run away. At first Cartwright is a bit of an asshole as the English hate Americans by nature (obviously) but is convinced by Hales awesome fighting prowess to button it and work with the dirty Yanky. After that he lightens up a lot and we find out that he€™s actually a nice guy (for a Brit) before he heroically gets killed of course.

19. Augustus €œCole Train€ Cole €“ Gears of War Series

This man is simply a war machine, joined the military after E-Day and never stopped fighting. His character is not hugely developed we guess, but he€™s damned funny and the guy comes to your rescue enough times in the series, that you get to love it when he shows up. He is most frequently announced into the games with a sentence containing the words €œthe train€ so you€™ll never miss him. Funny larger than life guy who deals with bad things with a chainsaw gun, seems like a fair assessment of the Cole Train.

18. Princess Toadstool €“ Super Mario Bros Series

Now basically with the Mario franchise, you play a plumber with no brain. He only really knows how to run forwards and jump. That€™s about it. So, it€™s no real surprise that he is easily manipulated into performing a long series of death defying jumps and a lot of forward based running to rescue some woman (a Toadstool woman at that) that we€™re not sure he€™d even met, maybe he had met her we don€™t remember. The Princess never puts herself out at all, she just literally waits for a rescue from a man she has no intentions of even hugging as a reward. Hold on, she shouldn€™t be on the list just for being an awful prick tease to a retard€or should she?

17. Chloe Frazer €“ Uncharted Series

Now Chloe isn€™t a massive character in the Uncharted series, brought in for the second instalment as a love rival for Nates wife Elaina (who to be honest is probably more interested in reading a book than breaking priceless artefacts and finding lost treasure) Her role is a double agent kind of get up, working with Nate. Witty, practical, tough as nails and completely reckless, helps out by being a bad ass with an awesome guns and a derriere that regularly gets mentioned in €œBest video game asses€ articles!

16. Alma €“F.E.A.R Series

In pure utter, terrifying creepiness terms, we€™re not sure a game has ever come up with a better vision of what hell would look like on a young ladies face. We don€™t like thinking about this game. It€™s like basically Ring or that other one with the clickity bones woman with that grudge about something. Almais evil €“ not surprising considering how the world has treated her €“ and she takes it out on you as both the main character and as a member of the audience. Showing up in the most creepy possible places to scare the faecal matter from your bowels, she is a master of the jump-out-of-your-seat shocks. We don€™t do ladders anymore here at WhatCulture! We know that she will be waiting at the top.
