Worms

Worms is one of my all time favourite gaming franchise. A series I have been playing since I first got my hands on the little pink digits back in the 90s. Worms can be a tense affair when playing alone which can sometimes clog the brain causing you to make a completely unexpected, accidental and foolish move, such as pressing jump once instead of twice and diving into the water. Although deathmatch on Worms can supply hours upon hours of fun and hilarity as you battle your friends for bragging rights, there is something special about watching a seasoned pal take his armoury online with a friend sitting next to them. A typical game of Forts on Worms, if played with caution can last up to 20mins before sudden death kicks in, which is where the real hand slipping off the control pad tension builds. A true gaming friend would be by your side to applaud expertly aimed grenades, and moments of genius as you perfectly hide from an explosive blast radius with your worm holding onto life with 1 health point. Not only does having a friend there to worship your attacking abilities easily boost your confidence, but having a friend who is well versed in how Worms works can be vital to winning a match. The stress and nerves that kick in during a closely fought battle can understandably take hold of both of you, but sometimes your friend can have a moment of clarity and remind you the wind is against you, so that bazooka shot is a bad idea. In my experience a hard fought online worms battle with friends in the room has proved as engaging as an episode of Breaking Bad, only with more celebration at the end if you win, and of course passing the blame to someone else if you lose.
