5 Classic Video Games That Should Get iPad Release

5 classics that would sit nicely in the App Store.

It's not all about Angry Birds and Cut the Rope, the popularity of Apple's groundbreaking device has brought back some of our favorite games that include Flashback, Monkey Island and Sonic the Hedgehog. Here are 5 classics that would sit nicely alongside them in the App Store....

5. Micro Machines

We start the list with a racer. Micro Machines started life as a popular 90s toy which made the successful leap into 16-bit gaming, most notably Sega Mega Drive and Super Nintendo. With a bird's eye view, the aim was to race your friends (or computer) around various household obstacles e.g. the breakfast table or the garden (the Billiard table level proved extremely frustrating). The aim wasn't necessarily to win the race but to get enough distance from your opponent to knock them off the screen and the first player to earn a certain amount of points. A simple, enjoyable game that changed the way we looked at racing games on the 16-bit platform. Its bright, cartoon style would surely work well on the iPad, especially if the online side of it was done right.

4. Rock Star Ate My Hamster

This Codemasters music management game from the 80's featured on such formats as Commodore 64 and Amiga. In a world saturated with football management simulators there has always been a surprising lack of simulators based around music management. RSAMH followed a simple format allowing players to hand pick their own band from a list of comical musical parodies such as Wacky Jacko and Jason Doner-Kebab. Fine-tune the band with practice sessions while increasing revenue with ever expanding gigs. The fun really starts when hitting the studio to record your album and watch the weekly charts as your hits make their ascent (or decent). An upgrade on this classic game with updated musicians and increased last ability mixed with the intuitiveness of the iPad would awaken this dormant classic.
