Arguably one of this year€™s most impressive titles comes with its fair share of frustrations. If there€™s one element in Bioshock Infinite that is imperfect €“ other than eating pineapples out of rubbish bins, it€™s the weapon combat. It felt somewhat lethargic and for the most part you couldn€™t string a number of shots together and be confident that your shooting accuracy would sustain. Therefore anytime the game focused on putting the player in arena battles it felt unenjoyable, compared to the beautiful, voyeuristic elements.

No moment felt more tedious than the end. After Booker and Elizabeth find out the secret to controlling Songbird, they make their journey to Monument Island in order to destroy the Syphon. During the flight aboard Comstock€™s blimp, they find themselves having to fight off waves of Vox Populi who intend to shoot it down. It starts off pretty simple but the waves continue to come and grow in numbers and the health stat for the engine your tasked to protect continues to decrease before you€™d have to retry again. Not even gliding around with your Skyhook could stop the moment feeling more mundane and tedious.

Upping the difficulty to Infinite€™s 1999 was a real test of patience as well. You€™d find yourself standing next to the closest medical kit, waiting for your moment to regenerate some health before going back out into the slaughter. If you could manage it however, the game offered you with the reward of a jaw dropping final fifteen minutes.
