5 PlayStation One Platformers That Deserve Modern Reboots

5. Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos

Croc - Legend of the Gobbos The Original Almost the most underrated title of this list, Croc was one of those games that wound up in bargain bins. I loved it though. Croc had a certain appeal in its overly colourful and unusual world. The wacky titular character Croc is an undersized crocodile raised by...gobbos? The story revolves around Croc rescuing his family of gobbos who have been kidnapped by€dantes? It€™s a very strange concept but it has that certain charm which will often make or break this kind of platformer. It subscribed to all the usual platformer conventions. The collection of mundane objects (shiny gems) which served the greater purpose to unlock bonus levels. There were some neat (albeit frustrating) mini-games littered throughout. And despite the infuriating catchphrase €œkapow€, Croc was pretty likeable too. The lush 3d world that was crafted by the designers made the game a perfect example of the PlayStation€™s capabilities. And I couldn€™t complain about the rather unique bosses (I have a vague recollection of fighting a cactus). The game spawned an enjoyable sequel that pushed the puzzle aspects of the game more than the traditional platforming aspects. Still, average sales and critical reception made the game fade into obscurity. Now it is just a memory of PSOne enthusiasts like me. The Potential Reboot vffrrf Imagine this: we fade into an island of lush greenery. Here we meet a young crocodile being raised by the mysterious gobbos. But then, the demonic dantes arrive. The gobbos are snatched up and our hero Croc injured. We are then swept into a free-roam platformer where Croc must traverse the varied and harsh terrains of the island to retrieve his family. The high definition graphics give us an incredible looking landscape. The classic tropes of platforming are returned to us in higher quality than ever. Double jumps, lives, collecting those sparkling gems. The island is split into levels and zones to keep a little familiarity with the classic titles. There isn€™t a lot of scope for story but that€™s okay because all we€™re looking for is an opportunity to traverse some glorified platforms. Am I the only one who thinks this would be a really cool Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 title?
