5 Ways DOOM Is The Perfect First-Person Shooter

4. Relentless Pace

As anyone who has played a DOOM game before can attest, it's all about pushing forward. There are no cover mechanics, DOOM isn't a title that rewards taking your sweet time. Instead of seeking shelter and tactically picking off enemies, it's all about wading in all guns blazing, sending bloody lumps of demon flesh flying all over the place.

Adding to the challenge, there's no magically regenerating health either. As hinted at in the previous entry, if players start running from battle, it's likely they'll end up splattered with little fuss. One key component to the game does give incentive to keep moving and keep killing.

Enemies drop health and upgrades, which only makes it more necessary to slay the demon horde with reckless abandon. Health pickups are vital to success, gamers have to go with their gut instincts to ensure survival.

It's an intense experience, but then that has always been part of DOOM's charm. The relentless pace of the game is breath-taking, and it's a huge selling point that makes DOOM unique.
