7 Best WWE Video Games For Recreating The Royal Rumble

7. WWF Royal Rumble

Let's start right at the beginning, shall we? WWF Royal Rumble is the first WWF/E title that features the Royal Rumble match. Released in 1993 for the Super NES and Sega Genesis, the game only featured the company's top stars but gave us all a taste of what was to come. For the first time, an on-screen grappling meter could be seen, which is still there today, and steel chairs could be used as weapons. Royal Rumble also added a variety of new moves including illegal tactics such as choking while every superstars' finishing moves was also included for the first time. The gameplay was very basic. It was set up to be a tug of war type affair which showed who was getting the upper hand in the on-screen meters. Even though you could only have a maximum of six wrestlers in the ring, the game turned out to be a huge leap forward and influenced many, if not all, WWE's future video game titles. The game's Rumble match itself was no holds bared and elimination occurred when a wrestler was thrown out of the ring. A wrestler had to have been worn down before they were thrown out, unless they were caught running with a hip toss or knocked off of the top turnbuckle. The last wrestler remaining in the ring after all 12, yes 12, had entered won the simulated match. Once all was done and dusted, score rankings were shown giving a wrestler's total time in the ring along with a list of opponents they eliminated. All in all the title was very good, but represented something you'd find for free on the app store today compared to the modern day's games. it was released over 22 years ago now.
