7 Deadly Gaming Sins - ENVY

6. Zynga - Worse Than EA?

It might be quite hard to imagine a video game company being able to generate more hate than EA, itself being infamously greedy and an all-time apex predator when it comes to enforcing loot box (sorry Suprise Mechanics) into it's titles, but there is actually a force out there even more despicable, and that's Zynga.

Zynga is, for lack of better words, a thief masquerading as a reputable developer, as across their tenure they have cloned and even stolen ideas and assets from other popular casual games and browser titles, and showed a truly unscrupulous trend of taking said ideas from smaller development teams who wouldn't be able to generate the funding to take Zynga to court.

Therefore Zynga's envy led them to steal great ideas from up and coming devs and then hold them down with the threat of extensive legal fees, and awfully, for a while, this practice seemed to work well for them. That is until they were overcome by the green-eyed demon and tried to steal from EA.

Big mistake.

In 2012 Maxi a division of EA issued a lawsuit to Zynga claiming they had stolen mechanics, art, and visual interface aspects of their game The Sims Social to make Zynga's The Ville. And if there's one thing we all know about EA, it's that their pockets are deep enough to bury people in. Zynga's envy had lead them to become a big fish in a small stolen pond, but EA had just swallowed them whole.
