7 Exact Video Game Moments That Made You "Nope Out" Entirely

1. Leaving Leon In A Skip - Resident Evil 2 DEMO

Ok so I won't lie to you here, I'm most definitely fudging the "don't tell extremely personal tales as you'll alienate your audience" rule, but when you hear the tale of how one young gamer also fudged his trousers, you'll see why I'm stepping up to the podium for my Ted Talk on "How Resident Evil 2 Killed My Childhood".

So for those youngsters in the back who have no concept of a video game unlockable they didn't pay for let alone the concept of printed media, back in the heady days of the late '90s and early 2000s magazines like The Official Playstation Magazine were the sort of playground currency you could retire on.

People would swarm you to look at articles, and upcoming features and of course relentlessly quiz you on what was on the elusive and cherished demo disc. In this case, Issue 14 Volume 2 had not only the absolute stonker that was Gex 3D but also the absolute stinker that was Rascal, and in between these giants of gaming was a little title called "Resident Evil 2"

Now, as anyone that cast a shadow can probably tell you, playing this sort of game at a time when my brain was basically stitched together with Saturday morning cartoons was a recipe for disaster, and the Chef is the person who made Bacon Soda. I was terrified, and I know that word gets bandied around a lot but I am telling you without a word of hyperbole that I didn't finish this ten-minute demo because I was so scared.

It started off in a blind panic with me running past flaming zombies, and thanks to the discordant music and at the time visceral death of Kendo, I was a nervous wreck. Couple this with the basketball court jump-scare where the zombies break through the gate and I was done.

As I climbed over a dumpster and the camera angle changed so that I could only hear the shuffling of a zombie and their mournful cries, I just froze, wasted all my bullets firing at something I couldn't see, and when I ran out all I could do was climb back onto the skip and wait out my time. I never played the demo again and I'm pretty sure I gave the disc away to a friend soon after.

Now since that point, I've gone on to embrace Resi as one of my fav franchises ever, but at this point in time, I couldn't imagine anything I'd want to play less.
