7 Mass Effect Species That Need Their Own Games
1. Drell
Thane Krios is the single coolest character in Mass Effect with an unrivaled potential as a game protagonist. You know it, I know it, we all know it. The first thing he does in Mass Effect 2 is silently drop from the ceiling, snap a guard's neck, take out two more, and then elegantly take his target into his arms, shoot her in the stomach, pray, and then call into question the moral ethics of the player. Tell me that's not badass.
The problem is, Mass Effect's gameplay structure doesn't allow for Thane's cutscene actions and narrative skill-set to be properly expressed past this initial encounter, which is precisely why a game centered around him would be perfect.
A deeply religious assassin for hire, and perhaps the most skilled in the galaxy at that, Thane views himself not as a killer, but a gun aimed by his clients, yet is nevertheless haunted by his memories and spends much of his time meditating. Oh, and his wife was murdered in revenge for one of his assassinations, sending him into a violent mission of retribution. You know, like every action movie hero.
Furthermore, Drell possess eidetic memories and the smallest stimulus can cause them to relive past events in perfect detail. Thane goes as far as to say he remembers every aspect of every one of his assassinations. He's also dying of Kepral's Syndrome and is full of regret.
All of this could easily be used to create a game featuring Thane in his final days remembering key hits from his past, with the player reenacting them as chapters, returning to the present for a cutscene from a wistful Thane, linking each story together into an elaborate tapestry.
Like Garrus and the Asari, Thane is highly versatile, employing a sniper rifle, melee combat, and biotic powers in equal measure. He methodically plots out his kills and is obviously a highly adept stealth operative. He has a mysterious past, a dead wife and estranged son, and frequently relives his past in vivid detail, often against his will.
Seriously, it's all right there, waiting to be written. Hitman but with aliens.
