4. Tricky The Triceratops - Diddy Kong Racing
When Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing got a bit too stressful, then there was Diddy Kong Racing.
Featuring a myriad of fun courses and playable characters of all different strengths and weaknesses, most courses could be raced in any of the three available vehicles. Sometimes the car just felt better for those boosts, or the hovercraft for taking watery shortcuts, or even the plane to soar over the other racers.
The main attraction of Diddy Kong’s fantastic spin-off title is the vast adventure mode. You’ll travel from place to place, completing races, collecting bananas and winning balloons. It’s all a jolly good time until you come to face the first boss.
The first boss, for goodness sake!
Tricky the triceratops is unlike anything you’ve ever faced before, especially during his rematch race. In place of other racers who all share your weaknesses to terrain, balloons, and speed hazards, Tricky is a great big hulking dinosaur with some incredible acceleration.
Not to mention that the absolute dingle totally cheats! He’ll run you over and squish you flat, making you lose valuable time, knock over rocks to block your path, and speed off at the start of the race without even waiting for the green flag.
So unsportsmanlike.
