7 Terrifying Recent Horror Games You Must Play This Halloween

4. Transference

Ubisoft

Though this Elijah Wood-produced game has been marketed as a psychological thriller, it encompasses enough pulse-pounding horror elements that it can comfortably be recommended this Halloween.

Playable in both VR and conventional 2D, Transference hurls the player into an escape room of sorts, where they're tasked with unlocking the key to a mysterious family tragedy.

Having played the game on PSVR, it's certainly one of the headset's most visually lavish and immersive experiences to date. Though it's only around two hours in length, it concentrates heaps of ambition, atmosphere and inventiveness into its scant play-time.

While there aren't any major enemies or game over states, the disturbing imagery on display is sure to keep you on edge throughout, whether you're playing it on a TV or in VR.
