7 Video Game Fan Theories Confirmed By The Creators
3. How Faro Got Omega Clearance - Horizon: Zero Dawn
One of PS4's strongest exclusive titles, Horizon's original open-world was rich, impeccably detailed and fun to explore, and given how deep the lore of the universe ran, it's no surprise that fans had tons of questions about the game, and crafted theories in order to answer those questions themselves.
One such question (and theory) revolved around the character Ted Faro. Faro was the founder and owner of Faro Automated Solutions, the organisation responsible for the creation of the machines and subsequent fall of civilisation.
In the game, it's revealed that Faro possesses security level "Omega", which grants him access to project Zero Dawn and enables him to kill the Alpha team who worked on it. Omega level superseded the authority of the project's creator, Dr. Sobeck, as well as the entirety of her team, and none of them had any idea that Omega even existed.
Within the game, we're never told how Faro acquired it. He just has it. Omega is a very big deal since it leads to the downfall of humanity, so it's weird that it wasn't explained more.
A popular theory among fans was that either GAIA (an AI system managing Zero Dawn) or Faro's own engineers created Omega clearance, and it would give him secret, high-level access to project Zero Dawn: essentially, a "back door" (a phrase used by Faro in one of the game's audio logs).
Eventually, this theory was addressed by the game's writer in a Reddit AMA, who cleared up a lot of the confusion surrounding Faro, Omega clearance and Zero Dawn:
"Ted had Omega clearance created for himself as a secret back door to project Zero Dawn... Just to be clear, Ted would have had his engineers create the back door... GAIA wouldn't have done it for him!"
Horizon: Zero Dawn is still easy to understand even without this nugget of information, but it's nice to see developers addressing even the smaller details that fans have questions about.
