No, it wouldn't just be cashing in on that sweet, sweet Red Dead Redemption hype. Okay, maybe just a little. But could you blame them?
The Wild West seems to be is the perfect setting but with Call of Juarez inexplicably jumping the shark as it leapt decades into the future and into inner city gang warfare, the gap in the market seems as huge as the Old West itself. While it would be tempting to play as Dolores, Westworld is so winding that a game set fully in-universe would risk upsetting the balance. But that doesn't mean Rocksteady needs to turn its back on these violent delights just yet.
The Michael Crichton-directed movie had much more frenzied gunplay than the meta-fictional, parallel-timeline of the Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy TV show, which perhaps suits Rocksteady and the gaming universe in general.
However, they showed a surprising nuance with iconic scenes like Batman carrying the dead Joker out onto the streets, so can definitely apply a lighter touch when needed. A game complex enough to contain the Westworld mythology would need to reinvent the AAA-gaming scene's wheel, but do it right and it'd be a huge hit.
