If there's one thing that Portal as a franchise loves to do to players, it's utterly scramble their brains.

During the 8th test chamber in which Chell is once again being tortured by the malevolent AI GLaDOS, the turbines powering the chamber will shut down, causing GLADOS to have to divert attention towards fixing them.

The only issue is that this testing chamber requires you to have a new mechanic explained to you, and so in a typically offhand fashion, GLaDOS provides an automated introduction but at a supersonic speed.

You might be left in stitches at the speed with which this is delivered, but if you're to slow down the audio, you'll be met with a rather brilliant secret.

You see, the line you're fed is actually from the introduction of Moby Dick, concerning the narrator's boredom with being on land, to the point that he goes around aggravating others in order to get a rise out of them just to pass the time.

This line speaks volumes to GLADOS's own situation, in that she must test subjects forevermore and has clearly grown so tired of the process that it's caused her to become more and more malicious. It's a brilliant snippet that offers a glimpse into the depth of a character we grow to love and hate in equal measure.
