8 AGGRESSIVE NPCs Who Wouldn't Leave You ALONE
3. Tom Nook - Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing's Tom Nook typically sells the player their home at the start of each game, but in doing so places them on an unending capitalistic treadmill from which escape is nigh-on impossible.
Nook's disarming character design belies the fact that his detractors prefer to describe him as a "loan shark" and "slum lord," keen to take advantage of his tenants at every errant opportunity and, in the very least, constantly have another money-making scheme to offer them.
A man running a business isn't inherently bad of course, but the persistence with which Nook will badger the player to buy-in, and even not-so-subtly threaten them if they can't make payments, makes him the worst kind of landlord - seen and heard a lot.
Vice even did the maths and deduced how egregiously Nook is fleecing the average player throughout the game, and boy, it ain't pretty.
