8 Boss Battle Difficulty Spikes That DESTROYED Players

4. Robo-Prez - Destroy All Humans (2020)

It’s a small mercy when a particularly nasty difficulty spike comes at the end of a game instead of in the middle. Then again, it's a spike so nasty plenty of players just said ‘Absolutely not’ and put the game down, preferring to leave it unfinished is dastardly indeed.

If you’re going to go with the title ‘Robo-Prez’ you ought to be able to hold your own, and while the first version of this boss battle from the original 2005 game was equally tricky, I just picked the one where you might get your little alien bum handed to you in high definition. A towering metal mech with a health bar as big as he is, you’ll need to carefully navigate your UFO to lay down fire while not getting torpedoed by rockets, missiles, or his especially high damage dealing chest lasers. There are also no checkpoints in this lengthy battle and rare chances to bump up your shields so if you didn’t do your upgrading due diligence ahead of time, well, you’re really going to wish you had. Not to mention, once you off the big guy, you have to deal with the final final boss Silhouette who zips around the battlefield and pelts you with all manner of supercharged laser attacks and shield draining manoeuvres that can easily prove lethal.

The difficulty of these last boss fights might not track with the challenge level set by the rest of the game, but if you want a final combat encounter that really makes you feel like you’re earning your invasion of Earth, this’ll do it.
