8 Brilliant Ways Video Games Punished Out-Of-Bounds Players

1. Doggy Door - Resident Evil

Resident Evil Cerberus
Capcom

After witnessing some of your team being eaten alive by mutated hell hounds and just making it inside a nearby mansion by the skin of your teeth, the last thing you're likely going to want to do is head back out into the dark to be potentially turned into one of these deadly dogs coiled turds right?

Well sure, that's what a normal person would do, but this is Resident Evil where strange is the new normal and so opening that door back up again seems like a very "normal" thing to do. Fear fans the world over were surely surprised then when the original Resident Evil threw up an extra cutscene depicting one of these monsters pushing its snout through the door looking for your hams to chew on.

It was shocking, and it clearly presented a boundary for the player to never look to cross. However in the subsequent Gamecube remake, things got even better, for here, if players were looking to activate the cutscene, they would instead be rewarded not just with the jump scare, but one of the dogs coming inside the mansion to fight them!

This was Capcom telling players, "you had six years to learn not to go outside!" and showcasing that in fact, old dogs can learn new tricks.
