8 Cancelled Video Game Movies That Would Have Changed Everything

3. The Last Of Us

The Last of Us has all the makings of a successful blockbuster movie: love, family, survival in the face of a zombie-like apocalypse and a gritty, near future backdrop that would have looked fantastic on the big screen.

At one point, Naughty Dog's mooted cinematic adaptation sounded like a dead cert, with a table reading of the script having taken place, but the latest status update suggests it's undead in the water.

From the sound of things, no progress has been made in more than two and a half years. The Last of Us game director Neil Druckmann told IGN back in 2016...

"I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do. There hasn’t been any work done on it in over a year and a half."

It's a shame The Last of Us doesn't sound like it will make it to cinema anytime soon. Anything with even a passing resemblance to a zombie epidemic is always a winner on the big screen, but the game has heart, soul and substance too.

At least its upcoming sequel, The Last of Us: Part 2, is shaping up to be as cinematic as any blockbuster movie.
