8 More Incredible Gaming Characters Who Only Appeared In ONE Game

7. Harrier Du Bois - Disco Elysium

Microsoft Windows

Detective "Harry" Du Bois is a character that goes to show that you don't necessarily need to be an out and out badass with a pocket of one-liners and an arsenal of cool weapons to become a memorable video game character, hell in this case he proves you don't even need to be competent at your job in order to make a huge impact.

For you see, in the nicest terms possible, Harry here is a true and blue f**k up, failing upwards through the entirety of Disco Elysium, and being all the better for it. For what Du Bois has in spades that a tonne of other video game heroes lack, is a true sense of development and progression, turning from a man who can quite literally die by his own tie in the opening moments, to an instrumental figure in a region-wide plot of twists, turns, and betrayals.

What makes Harry so brilliant as a character though is that on a base level, he's the most realistic avatar in gaming, as we are all flawed beings who are just trying their bloody best to make it through the day. He's relatable on an uncomfortable level and will never let you forget that this is not a video game with "video game" outcomes, you won't be sliding across car bonnets and tackling perps, you won't be flirting your way through difficult conversations, you will be burping in the face of the beautiful, you will be tripping over your own shoelaces, and you will love every second of it.

And why is that? Because when it does work, when you do get those slim moments of victory, they taste all the sweeter.
