8 Reasons The Video Game Industry Is Headed For Disaster (Again)
3. Ignorance Of The Consumer
In light of Blizzard's announcement that Diablo would be moving to mobile for its next instalment, consumer outrage inevitably followed, prompting certain outlets to criticize the loudest of the bunch for being entitled, somewhat glossing over the issue.
Obvious trolls excluded, the genuine grievances longtime Blizzard supporters took with Diablo Immortal was its tone-deaf delivery. De-planting Diablo's traditional PC roots in favour of a move to mobile was always going to cause some friction, but it's the climate in which it was announced that beggars belief. With Diablo 3 already long in the tooth and being left on life support for the last several years, a bonafide sequel is what the existing fan base have been anticipating with each passing BlizzCon. To know that's the case and tease big news for the series, only to announce a mobile spin-off in its stead is a remarkable failure in communication.
The punchline from this entire debacle? Blizzard's already known to be working on Diablo 4. Had it teased the sequel in tandem with the new mobile venture, nobody would have batted an eyelid.
