8 Terrifying Video Game Moments That Are Laughably Outdated Now

3. Silent Hill 4's Big Head Mode

After three games, the Silent Hill series needed to pull something out the bag to scare players going into the fourth game. Keeping with the tradition of making its monsters manifestations of the protagonist's guilt and fears, a later level featured the oversized mangled head of one of main character Henry's neighbours, Eileen.

While many players thought it was one of the creepiest moments in the game at the time though, in hindsight it's by far one of the strangest monsters in the whole Silent Hill franchise.

Sillier than it is scary, the decision to focus on the oversized head is puzzling enough now, but it's the zig-zagging eyes freaking out that absolutely make the scene hilarious all these years later.

Clearly somebody at Capcom didn't get the memo that back in the day big head modes were goofy cheats players punched in to get a few quick laughs, not what should have been considered scary enough to put in a Silent Hill game.
