8 Video Game Fan Theories So GOOD They Became Real

1. The Great Goobbue Wall - Final Fantasy XIV

Mortal Kombat 11
Square Enix

It's no secret that the original iteration of Final Fantasy XIV was an abject disaster, enough that the MMORPG ended up being shut down in November 2012, barely two years after it launched.

But in the days leading up to FFXIV's closure, those loyal players who remained decided to fashion their own heroic endgame. As a "finale" to the 1.0 version of the game, Square Enix flooded the city of Ul'dah with high-level enemies for players to fight.

Players responded by forming a huge wall with their Goobbue mounts as they made their last stand to defend the city, until the servers were finally closed.

Yet rather than brush this under the rug, Square Enix made the famed "Great Goobbue Wall" a canon part of the series' lore, with the rebooted version of FFXIV, A Realm Reborn, fully acknowledging it as a heroic sacrifice which took place prior to the Umbral Calamity that led directly into A Realm Reborn.

While nobody could've really blamed Square Enix for wanting to ignore the events of the original botched iteration of the game, it was very cool of them to make the actions of the most dedicated players a legit part of the mythology.
