8 Video Game Goons You Felt Awful For WASTING
6. The Athenian Soldier - God Of War
This will come as no secret to anyone even slightly familiar with Kratos from the almighty God Of War series, but this jacked-up super-powered and super pissed-off God slayer wasn't always the nicest of people.
I know right? Who would have thought that someone who routinely caves in skulls with his bare fists would have something of a dark past?
To be fair we didn't know just how dark things were going to get upon starting up the original God Of War which painted Kratos in such a way as to make it clear he was not a good guy but just that everyone else was far worse by comparison. Yet there is one act in the first game that is so bone-chillingly horrible it's sat with fans of the franchise ever since. I'm of course talking about Kratos's decision to sacrifice one of his own goons, one of his own soldiers, in order to appease Posidan and gain access to his lair.
As the Athenian soldier appears, trapped inside a cage, he begs Kratos to return with him to Athens in an attempt to move on from the horrors they've both witnessed and start anew. Yet it's here, under the players control, that they must drag the cage, slowly and painfully up to the sacrificial area. All the while the man cries and begs and it's genuinely alarming at how the devs make this process so slow and arduous.
Yet there is no other way to progress, and so with a heavy heart, we kill our former ally. At least the death was quick, right?
Oh, what's that we burned him alive? Fantastic that's just awful.
