1. The Merchant - Resident Evil 4
Come on, let's all just say the line and get it out of the way:
"Heheheh. Whaddya buyin'?"
What an unmitigated legend this mysterious man is, who routinely pops up at the best, and strangest times in order to sell Leon his trusty wears, or buy trinkets and treasures off of us - "for a hoigh proice" of course. Little is known about The Merchant but his instantly quotable phrases and sheer usefulness place him up there with Barry Burton as one of the franchise's best boys.
Importantly, he proves that you don't need to be all cute and cuddly to be eligible for this list, you just need to be damn good at your job and memorable for all the right reasons. Sure, we probably should question why this seemingly infected man is plying his wares at the strangest of times, or just how it is that he zips about this map so quickly, but when he's pretty much the only respite from the grim, dark and unforgiving other areas of the game, who really cares?
