Piranha Bytes and Nordic Games clearly had a lot of faith in their science fiction-fantasy RPG, ELEK, because in a strange move, reports that a sequel had entered development emerged before the original had even been released.
Published by THQ, the game certainly didn't lack ambition, thrusting players head first into a massive open world where futuristic themes meet medieval elements, but it was met with mixed reviews.
Critics seemed to appreciate what the game was trying to achieve, though few saw past its disjointed story, unresponsive controls and frustrating combat mechanics.
Nevertheless, German games site GamesWirtschaft has reported that Piranha Bytes has landed €150,000 in funding to put towards ELEK 2.
It's unclear whether the original's divisive reception has derailed that idea, but if all goes to plan, the follow-up is expected to arrive at some point in 2019.
