The Metal Gear Solid franchise is of course filled to bursting with mad twists and reveals that fans are still processing decades after the fact. Living up to this reputation, bombastic sequel Metal Gear Solid 2 got the ball running with a few major reveals: that the villain was a third Snake clone called Solidus, and that he was also previously the President of the United States.

Of course, the President is mentioned in the first game, known then as George Sears, a detail casual fans may have already missed going into the second title. Solidus' real introduction, name and all, is the subject of this entry though, as the villain was actually revealed in the stinger of MGS' post-credits sequence.

Here, if you saved Meryl at the end, Ocelot is heard speaking to the President who he refers to as Solidus a single time.

The fact that this stinger is tucked into a post-credits sequence and is dependent on which ending you get means that plenty of fans totally missed it the first time around, and were not at all prepared for Solidus' grand unveiling in the sequel.
