8 Video Games That Taught You History Through Immersion

5. Bioshock

This entry doesn't tell us about a historical event, but it does teach us about political theory. The first and second Bioshock are cautionary tales of opposite ideals that the world has debated over since their conception centuries ago:

Individualism vs. Collectivism.

The first Bioshock showcases what can happen when individualistic ideals such as self-reliance and laissez-faire capitalism run amok. You don't need to look further than the struggle between Frank Fontaine and Andrew Ryan to see the results of self-obsession.

Ryan built a city for the elites, but what he obviously didn't consider when building his utopia, is that there are people far more devious than he who want their own larger piece of the pie. And well...more power to them. Because that's what Rapture is all about, right?

The irony of the big twist towards the end of the game makes us question if there really even is such a thing as individual thought and free will. It's certainly a conundrum that will leave you scouring dusty bookstores for works by Camus and Emerson while you try to figure out just what the heck reality is.
