8 Video Games That Taught You History Through Immersion

4. Battlefield 1

It's mind-boggling to see how much history was packed into Dice's 2016 installment of Battlefield which focuses on World War I (1914-1918). But, despite the massive amounts of historical content, weapons, vehicles, locations, and campaigns you can find in-game, only a fraction of the events of World War I were explored within it.

That being said, Battlefield 1 provides us with a visually stunning emotional experience that can give us insight into a war that is rarely talked about anymore. There is no overstating the amount of devastation the First World War caused, and how brutal humans can be to one another. Battlefield can at least show us some semblance of that destruction.

The Battlefield 1 campaigns take us through three years of war and the perspectives of soldiers from all sides. Through it, we can get a taste of what it must have been like to be at the Battle of Cambrai, trekking through the Dolomite mountains, and being part of the United States' Harlem Hellfighters.

The beauty of the game is in the small details found in the uniforms, the weapons, and the vehicles, and it's those things that make Battlefield 1 such an evocative learning experience.
