Even though this is the fanciest 're-skin' of COD's core formula seen so far, you still know exactly how it's going to play. Assassin's Creed fell victim to much the same proposition, as when footage of AC: Unity started dripping in, it sure looked gorgeous enough, but you knew from the animations what it would be like at launch.

Such an assumption is a double-edged sword. On the one hand you're guaranteed a solid-playing, reliable shooter (and despite what anyone says, COD is one of the best made games on the market), yet by continuing to ensure this basis never changes, it only highlights how drastically everything else around the shooting does.

Think about it: Wouldn't you rather have more refinements made to how COD plays and feels - like how the mech suits indicated a change in gameplay for each new context - rather than so much effort put into redressing set-pieces and future world design?

Diminishing returns were going to set in eventually, and although COD has had a damn good run, they're more evident than ever right now.
