9 Disastrous Mistakes That Killed Star Wars Battlefront 2
7. EA Admitting To Investors That The Bottom Line Wasn't Affected By Removing Microtransactions
A smoking gun if ever we needed one, an EA conference call post-release confirmed that microtransaction models were only in the game for money-grubbing purposes. Ye gads, what a shocker.
How do we know this? Because EA literally told their investors that the game's earnings would not be affected by the omission of microtransactions (being they were removed at Disney's request).
"[Removing in-game transactions] is not expected to have a material impact on EA’s fiscal year 2018 financial guidance" was the quote, which quite literally reads as, "The game will still make just as much money without them".
Granted we now know from recent sales that this isn't the case, but even at the time, EA were either lying to their investors (which is unlikely) or they're an optional framework designed to exploit consumers, fundamentally not affecting the bottom line (far more likely).
Either way, right here we have EA saying that the system itself doesn't need to be in the game. Perfect.
