9 Elaborate Video Game Urban Legends Everyone Believed

1. Resident Evil 2 - Finding Akuma

The legend: Zombies, Lickers and mutated plant life weren't the only heinous entities residing deep in the bowels of Umbrella's subterranean complex beneath Raccoon City in Resident Evil 2. Something else stirred. A being so powerful that he need not rely on guns or grenade launchers to wipe out the undead - just a pair of fists and a knack for producing fiery balls of skin-melting death.

So, how did one access Akuma for a spot of dragon punching fun?

Once inside the pharmaceutical company's labs, the player, as either Claire or Leon, needed to enter Akuma's name into the lab's console and subsequently complete all scenarios with both characters six times using only the knife and handgun. If you could achieve that, as well as bagging an 'A' rank for each, then the Dark Hadou user would be waiting for you upon commencing playthrough number seven.

Where it came from: As was the case with Street Fighter II's mythical Sheng Long, gaming mag Electronic Gaming Monthly was responsible for causing frustration and despair for a whole generation of Resi fans as they tried (and failed) to unlock Ryu's nemesis in Capcom's survival horror.

Will Capcom include a nod to the legendary hoax in Resident Evil 2's remake? It's the right thing to do.
