Used in Star Wars Battlefront and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, the rendering technique of Photogrammetry is slowly starting to catch on. It involves taking multiple real-world photos of whatever you'd like to render in the game, before accurately stitching and moulding them onto 3D models.
It's how Battlefront was able to look so consistently outstanding and could accurately mimic some real-world Star Wars props in-game, and for Resident Evil 7, Capcom used the technique to map all sorts of photorealistic locations.
Yes, the occasional texture will fail to load in and the lip-synching can be pretty off at times, but there were multiple occasions exploring either the mansion itself or its supplementary locations, where I genuinely had to remind myself I was looking at a game.
