9 Times Video Games Took You For A Fool
6. Half Life 3 On Steam
Any fool that believes we're ever getting Half-Life 3 deserves this kind of terrible heartbreak - wake up and smell the headcrabs, people, it's never going to happen. With Half-Life and Half-Life 2 being some of the most well received PC games ever to exist, fans have long awaited the next instalment in the series since it's announcement in 2006, but 13 years later, we're still left wanting.
Falling right into the trap that so many desperately want to believe to be true, a site posing as Valve put up a fake listing for Half Life 3 as an April Fools day joke back in 2012, crushing PC gamers hopes and dreams with one cursor click that revealed just... a laughing troll face.
Whilst joke Half-Life content has been one of the most populous pranks on the internet, this one struck home far more impressively than the others.
Every sign pointed to it being a fake, and still people fell for it. Sometimes blind hope outweighs rational thought, and we all get hurt in the process, since this damn joke is retold every year and there's always a glimmer of hope that it's true. Half-Life is symbolic of half the lifetime people have wasted on wishing it into existence.
