9 Unsatisfying Video Game Plot Twists (And How To Fix Them)

3. The Internet Is A Person, Wants To Take Over The World - Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy

Oh boy, David Cage really can't stick his landings, as was evident in this inaugural title that started out as one man committing a murder whilst sleepwalking, and spiralled into some sort of world-saving, "You're the one" cavalcade of barmy dialogue and aerial kung fu. Yes, really. The stupidest part - and that's saying a lot - came near the close of the game, when it was revealed the Internet (like, the actual internet) had become so powerful, it had spawned a slew of sentient life forms that were threatening to take over the world, leaving you to defend it... or something. How to fix it: Lock David Cage in a cupboard until he finishes a script without being baked off his face. There's absolutely no way the entire team over at Quantic Dream were behind this idea, and literally anything would've been preferable to this hokum. In seriousness, the plot went out the window as soon as we saw Lucas dodging bullets and leaping entire bridges in a single bound, but it could have been salvaged if they pulled a "It was all in his head" reveal, keeping their ancient Mayan cults and whatnot, laying out the rest of the tale as some new-age revivalist order trying to fulfil the titular Indigo prophecy. But no... the internet is real, guys. Time to punch it in the face to save your girlfriend, because video games.
