9 Video Game Failures That Made A Mockery Of Kickstarter
3. Mighty No. 9
What it is: Comcept's spiritual successor to the Mega Man series that Keiji Inafune himself oversaw development of, Mighty No. 9 whipped up a storm of interest for that reason alone.
With nearly $4 million of funds under its belt from crowdfunding efforts, nothing could go wrong for the game meant to reignite interest in hardcore platformers. Right?
Why it failed: Wrong. Following a series of frustrating delays, Mighty No. 9 finally made it to release, only, those that had expected a level of quality and charm similar to that of its inspiration were in for a rude awakening.
Despite all of the promises that the wait would be worth it, the fruits of Comcept's labour arrived to a lukewarm response. The kicker here is that Mighty No. 9 isn't bad, it's serviceable; that it came from the mind of the industry veteran that is Inafune, we all expected something with a bit more personality and variety.
Oh, and while we're on the subject, whatever happened to the 3DS and PS Vita versions you promised all those years ago, Comcept?
