9 Video Game Franchises RETURNING On PS5, Xbox Series XS & Switch
7. Metroid Prime 4
As will be the case with a lot of the games here, we have things that were announced WELL ahead of anything tangible or that could otherwise be shown, and instead - like with Metroid Prime 4 - we've had nothing but a logo for four years.
First announced in 2017 to rapturous applause, Metroid Prime 4's development was completely restarted two years later, with the IP taken off Bandai Namco and given back to original trilogy devs, Retro Studios.
Nintendo profusely apologised but fans rejoiced that the team behind such a beloved IP was back in the saddle, though in regards to further updates we've seen very little.
As of October 2020 Retro were still hiring staff to work on an "emotional" story, making it seem like this could be another cutscene-focused Metroid a la Other M, albeit with a far better control scheme.
Either way, Metroid is on its way to Switch, and with the franchise's 35th anniversary hitting later this year, maybe that's when we finally get a sizeable update.
That, or the Metroid Prime trilogy collection - that leaked literal years ago - finally comes out.
