4. System Shock 3

A beloved but largely overlooked title in the console space, System Shock was to an entire generation of PC players what Bioshock was to everybody else.

Where the System Shock titles didn't actively recalibrate how to even tell stories in video games, Ken Levine's sequel left a longing for more that wasn't satiated for 16 years.

With legendary game dev Warren Spector returning to the IP, while 2015 saw the announcement of a System Shock 3, the game has been through development hell and back since. Original publisher Starbreeze ran into financial trouble, leading to a trickle-down effect of developers Otherside having to lay employees off in a bid to continue working on the IP.

Chinese conglomerate Tencent eventually stepped in in 2020, providing the necessary funds to get development back on track, and Spector confirmed production is continuing.

With Warren being responsible for Deus Ex, Wing Commander and of course, System Shock, his involvement alone makes this one to keep an eye on.
