3. Hotline Miami 2's Miami Mutilator
As a gorgeously gratuitous gore fest backed by the finest synthwave music on the planet back in 2014, Hotline Miami's sequel dove head-first into the ramifications of a lone vigilante murdering their way across the city from the first game.
There's a team of young fanatics replicating the killings, a movie director adapting what happened to their own gain, more individuals being hired by the mysterious 50 Blessings company, and Manny Pardo, a detective on the case of the whole thing.
Only... Pardo is actually "the Miami Mutilator", a career serial killer annoyed with the fact Jacket's events are getting attention instead.
Though this gets spelt out when he confronts his own psyche later on, or when the police finally confront him, during an earlier level if you look in the back of his car, you'll find the soon-to-be-victim of a brutal killing, still tied up, squirming in the trunk.
