9 Video Game Sequels So Bad They Killed The Series
3. Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over Mutant
Nintendo had Mario. Sega had Sonic The Hedgehog. So of course Sony needed their own furry mascot to compete with the big boys, and Crash Bandicoot was it. He might not have become an icon like the other guys, but his first few games for the PS1 are still considered classic platformers.
Crash didn't have such a smooth ride once original developer Naughty Dog moved on, and his transition to next gen platforms was awkward. The series became overloaded with entries and spin-offs of varying quality, and by the time the last entry (to date) came along gamers were just tired of the character.
It didn't help that Mind Over Mutant was a fairly charmless and generic platformer, and the personality of the original games was all but lost. Even Crash himself is plastered with a disturbing grin for the entire game, and his redesign appears intended to give children nightmares.
