Anthem: 10 Things Bioware Must Deliver
1. Interesting Opponents
1300816Assuming Anthem’s antagonist is nature, its cast of monstrous supporting characters need to carry a lot of the weight. Anthem’s bad guys haven’t been seen beyond the natural horrors infesting the lands beyond the wall and the odd feral robot, and if that’s what the game’s hostiles are limited to then it’s easy to imagine them being underwhelming.
If the game’s player characters don’t have much personality, as is so often the case in massively multiplayer games, the story will rely on its antagonists. Co-operative games become truly compelling when players must work together against an overwhelming opposition, and those events become much more compelling when that opposition has a design, personality and creative treatment that makes it stand out.
It’s entirely possible the real enemies of Anthem are still hidden, to be revealed later as the hype grows.
Let’s certainly hope so.
