Anthem: 4 Reasons To Be Excited (And 3 To Be Worried)

4. Casey Hudson And Drew Karpyshyn Were Involved

Video games are a collaborative effort. With so many devs working on so many things, arguably even more collaborative than television or film. So while it’s not fair to place credit for Mass Effect squarely on these two sets of shoulders, they surely deserve the most praise of all.

Casey Hudson was the project lead of the Mass Effect trilogy, having also directed Knights Of The Old Republic, so definitely knows how to make a sci-fi game great. Drew Karpyshyn, on the other hand, dealt with the writing on Mass Effect. So while Hudson had a large role in the overarching themes, Karpyshyn was in the thick of character interactions and development.

Both of these creative minds have had a hand in developing Anthem, which suggests grumbling that the game feels ‘hollow’ will be short lived when it hits shelves. Hudson, in fairness, did leave the project in 2014 after setting the ball rolling, but then returned in 2017 to oversee production once more. Karpyshyn also left, earlier this year, but played a big role in building the game up and hopefully left a huge influence on the team still there.
