Anthem: 4 Reasons To Be Excited (And 3 To Be Worried)

3. Destiny Clone

Here's where fans may start to worry. Anthem have tried so very hard to distance themselves from the label of being ‘a Destiny clone’ but the tag remains. As release draws closer and we see some more footage, they might come out from the shadow a little more, but the fact it’s lasted this long will be a huge worry for the company, and it could be bad news for fans too.

As many great games that were poorly marketed have discovered over the years, perception is often the make or break at launch. Regardless of the game’s quality, if sales severely miss their quota, that ‘ten year plan’ will go the way of Mass Effect Andromeda’s DLC; straight into the trash.

There is of course, the much bigger problem that this perception may be true. Destiny is a decent game, especially with the expansion packs added and Peter Dinklage taken out. But it fell well short of the promises it made, especially for day one players. If Anthem is to be successful, it needs to follow through on promises of seamless single player/co-op interchangeablity and deliver engaging gameplay right from the start.
